About Thrips
Thrips are tiny, thin insects, about 1mm in length, which are of the “piercing, sucking” variety, meaning they pierce the plant tissue with their mouth parts and suck out the nutrients. There are hundreds of species of thrips which feed on many species of plants, including but not limited to, dogwood, magnolia, maple, and palm. Feeding damage from thrips can appear as discolored or deformed leaves and stunted growth. Certain species of thrips are also known to carry and spread plant pathogens which can also do damage to the host tree.
